About Grace Flight America

Angel Flight America is a non-profit organization of pilots and other volunteers dedicated to serving the community by arranging free private air transportation for needy medical patients who cannot afford to utilize normal, commercial transportation. Angel Flight also provides services to blood, organ and tissue banks. Angel Flight America will arrange free transportation by air for any legitimate, medically related need or purpose. This service is available to any individual, medical agency, facility, health care or service organization or auxiliary. We service the Heartland of America. Patients are allowed to be accompanied by one or two family members or support persons. Our patients are usually traveling for surgery, chemotherapy, dialysis and other treatment and/or financially distressed or who are in a time-critical situation due to their medical condition. We arrange service to those who meet the following guidelines:**Must be ambulatory; must have a personally signed letter from the physician; must not be able to afford available alternative air transportation; must have a legitimate medical need to avoid lengthy surface transportation; must be able to ride in small non-pressurized aircraft that is not equipped for medical emergencies; must have ground transportation to and from the airport and the treatment center; must sign a waiver form releasing Angel Flight and volunteer pilots from liability; must be an outpatient.***Other important information: The completed application forms with accompanying documents must be faxed or mailed and must be received by Angel Flight Office before passengers may board aircraft. Patients must understand that while they may carry their own oxygen, Angel Flight volunteers are not able to provide any medical service before, during or after the flight; Patients must be physically fit to travel in a non-pressurized aircraft without access to lavatory facilities for the duration of the flight; no baggage in excess of 50 pounds allowed; pilot has last say as to completion of the mission; patient should have back-up transportation. Pilot normally should contact patients about 2 days before flight to coordinate pickup time and location. On flights less than 300 miles: we need 2 working days notice for the request; if the patient is requesting to fly in, go to their appointment and fly home the same day, the appointment must be between 11:00am and 1:00pm. On flights more than 300 miles but less than 500 miles: we need 4 working days notice for the request; we cannot fly patient n and fly them home the same day as the appointment; if they want to fly in the same day as the appointment, the appointment must be made after 3:00pm; if they want to fly home the same day of the appointment, they must be ready to depart from the airport no later than 10:00am. On flights more than 500 miles: patients must fly in the day before the appointment and fly home the day after the appointment. Requests submitted after Thursday noon should be for Wednesday of the following week or later.
